A0000005065 We are auctioning one of the best-loved and most coveted vintage-inspired chronographs in contemporary watchmaking: the Hamilton Intra-Matic Auto Chrono. This piece belongs to the prestigious American Classic collection and stands out with its unmistakable “Panda” dial, characterized by a warm white to matte cream background that elegantly contrasts with its two black sub-dials. This design is a direct and faithful homage to the celebrated Chronograph A released by the brand in 1968, perfectly capturing the spirit and aesthetics of motorsport racing in the sixties. The case, made of mirror-polished stainless steel, measures a balanced 40 millimeters in diameter, seating impeccably on any wrist. The watch is noted for its robustness and character thanks to a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment that mimics the old plexiglass crystals while offering modern scratch resistance. On the side you can see the classic mushroom-type pushers and a screw-down crown that guarantees water resistance up to 100 meters. Inside beats the automatic caliber Hamilton H-31, a Swiss-manufactured movement based on the legendary Valjoux architecture, delivering a remarkable 60-hour power reserve and excellent chronometric precision. The condition of this example is excellent, as can be seen in the detailed photo gallery. The stainless steel case retains its factory-original shine in very clean condition, showing only very slight surface “hairs” from very occasional, careful use, with no hits or deep marks. The sapphire crystal is completely pristine and free of marks. The original black 20 mm calf leather strap is in magnificent condition, maintaining its full flexibility and useful life. The movement has been properly serviced: the chronograph functions respond firmly, the reset to zero is exact, and the quick date change works perfectly.
