Jewellery designers took new directions in the post-war period. The new sense of form was characterised by a nearly casual asymmetry, which enlivened even the heaviest diamond designs and gave them the spirit of that optimistic era. Abstract references to ribbons and bows, crafted in platinum or white gold, were assembled into slightly three-dimensional compositions and set with sparkling diamonds. The present ring corresponds to this style. A natural ruby in intense cherry red takes pride of place at its centre. The band is designed as a coil around the finger, with one end flaring asymmetrically. The entire, visible upper side of the band is set with fine baguette-cut diamonds, which sit almost invisibly, closely packed together. A total of around 2.12 ct of fine white to white diamonds have been used, all of which exhibit a very high clarity (vvsi–vsi). The ring comes with an independent certificate, which confirms the quality of the materials. It is in excellent condition and of very high quality. A wonderful piece of jewellery – as thoroughly Midcentury as a bright red cocktail cherry on a milkshake!
