Gorgeous antique Anglo-Indian carved wooden side table

Beautiful antique Anglo-Indian carved wooden side table (often made of rosewood or teak), dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. This type of furniture is known for its extremely detailed, deep wood carving and combines traditional Eastern motifs with Western furniture forms from the Victorian era. Characteristic of this specific style are: • Figurative legs: The S-shaped legs (cabriole legs) sweep at the top into carved lion- or mythological creature heads and end at the bottom often in claws or stylized dragon/monster heads. • Richly decorated rails (apron): The edge under the tabletop features openwork carving with dense floral motifs, vine tracery and blossoms. • Cross joint: The legs are given extra support in the middle by an intricately worked wooden cross with a central ornament (often a knop or figurine). Such tables were produced during the colonial period in India (notably in regions such as Bombay or Madras) and Burma (Myanmar) for the European market, where these exotic and finely detailed pieces were very popular as plant stands or decorative tables. Dimensions: 46.5 cm high, 37 cm wide. The tabletop diameter is 32 cm. Condition: age-appropriate in good condition, of course signs of use. Including very small white spots. Photos are part of the description. These were taken under artificial light; the color may vary. Mood impressions are shown. It is well packaged and sent by registered mail. Jiljes where quality and service come first!
