Globe - 1970-1980

Vintage three-dimensional educational geographic panel, produced in Romania by Întreprinderea Poligrafică Brașov in the 1970s. The object consists of a large rectangular wood-like base on which two raised terrestrial hemispheres are applied, dedicated respectively to the Western and Eastern hemispheres. The original Romanian inscriptions read: „EMISFERA VESTICĂ” – Western Hemisphere „EMISFERA ESTICĂ” – Eastern Hemisphere „MERIDIANE” – Meridians The meridians are highlighted in red on the cartographic surfaces, emphasizing the characteristic three-dimensional effect of the whole. On one of the hemispheres the original legend „GLOBUL GEOGRAFIC POLITIC” is preserved, in which the following are listed: Diameter: 33.5 cm Scale: 1:38,500,000 Also legible are the mark of the Întreprinderea Poligrafică Brașov and the references to the authors and collaborators of the cartography, including Adrian Truțescu. The political cartography, geographic denominations, and graphics make it an interesting example of school and educational material from Eastern Europe in the latter half of the twentieth century. The special construction with the two large protruding hemispheres makes the panel extremely scenographic even as a decorative element: ideal for a collection of cartography, globes and vintage educational material, or to adorn studios, libraries, lofts, shops and vintage environments. The base is solid and the inscriptions are clearly legible. The hemispheres retain the cartography well and show patina, small marks, abrasions, slight irregularities and normal signs of use and of the time, visible in close-up photographs. No restoration work has been performed. Photos are part of the description and show in detail the object’s state of preservation.
