As documented in local historical research (see Nicolino Farina’s report in Campli Nostra Notizie, January–March 2003, p. 6), this valuable private family library was housed in the Rozzi family palace in Campli. The closed collection was divided among the heirs in 1960, causing parts of this historic family library to pass gradually into the antiquarian book trade. A wonderful and well-documented provenance that underscores the authentic character and origin of this bundle. Description & Extent: Lot of 13 individual original fascicles (fascicoli) of the rare Livorno edition of Giulio Ferrario’s monumental cultural and costume-historical standard work. This is a selection of scattered deliveries (not a complete work or continuously complete sections). Included fascicles / numbers: 29–36, 40, 51, 60, 62 and 64 (total 13 issues). Equipment: Preserved in the historical, ornamentally printed paper covers of the period with pasted spine labels and volume counters. The covers partially still contain the accompanying plate indices. Illustrations: Based on inspection, the 13 fascicles contain a total of 26 plates (2 plates per fascicle): 25 plates are finely hand-coloured and 1 plate in black-and-white (in one fascicle). Note on counting: the figure is based on a private inspection; a full collation of all text pages and an absolute guarantee of completeness are not provided. Condition: Unrestored antiquarian condition with clear signs of aging and use: * Covers: The fragile paper covers are partially more severely damaged, with tears, holes, missing sections and material losses at the spine and edges. In places the stitching is exposed. Paper & margins: Paper browning and foxing due to age, some creases and edge damage. The leaves are predominantly broad-rimmed and untrimmed. Special feature (corner trim): In one fascicle, several initial leaves show a clearly diagonal trimming of the lower outer corners (see detail photos). This corner trim with paper loss is expressly part of the offered condition. Notes on the photos: The attached photos of the complete set as well as of details are an important part of the condition description. They complement especially the information on covers, spine damage, stains, leaf edges, the corner trim, the plates and the Biblioteca Rozzi stamp. Private sale from a private collection.
