Gilbert Tournier / R. W. Thomas - Ame et Visage de Lyon - 1967

Stunning limited edition of 290 numbered copies, one of 200 on grand Rives rag paper and illustrated with 18 black drypoints by R.W. Thomas, printed at the Manuel Robbe presses - This work offers a discovery of Lyon through its historical heritage, its cultural identity, its urban landscapes and the particular atmosphere that emanates from its streets and monuments - The city appears as a place where several centuries of history meet, from the ancient origins of Lugdunum, founded under the Roman Empire, to its development into a major French commercial, industrial and cultural center - The title draws an evocative distinction between the “soul” of Lyon, which refers to its character, its traditions, the memory of its inhabitants and its place in national history, and its “face,” which designates its material appearance, its buildings, its squares, its quays and its architectural perspectives - Gilbert Tournier / R.
