German School, early 17th century Portrait of a young lady, half-length

oil on canvas, 66 x 59cm; framed 80 x 72cm, With Charles & Joan Mortimer & Sons, Great Chesterfield. Condition Report, Condition Report, Relined. Craquelure and surface dirt. Thinning to the paint in areas. Extensive infilling and retouching. Examination under UV light reveals overpainting to the face, bonnet, ruff, clothing and background, however a thick layer of varnish covers much of the surface which makes reading difficult and may mask further campaigns of restoration.
