全部拍賣 / Ethnographic / Genuine Isurus Oxyrinchus Mako Shark Tooth - Exceptional...
Impressive specimen, preserved in excellent condition — This lot presents a magnificent and extraordinarily well-preserved fossil tooth from a mako shark, scientifically identified as *Isurus oxyrinchus*. With a length of 46 mm, this tooth stands out for its flawless integrity, including a porous root and a perfectly intact glazed crown. Its morphology, with a functional curvature and a smooth surface free of serrations along the margins, is indicative of an anterior superior position in the dentition, optimized for hunting. The natural tones of the specimen, ranging from the ivory white of the crown to the light beige of the root, accentuate its intrinsic beauty and make it an object of notable aesthetic value. The mako shark is recognized as one of the most efficient and fastest predators of the oceans. Its hydrodynamic build and powerful musculature allow it to reach considerable speeds, exceeding 70 km/h in open water. The anterior teeth of *Isurus oxyrinchus* are not designed to tear, but to penetrate with precision. This specialization enables the mako to strike agile prey such as tuna, swordfish, and mackerel with a single, rapid, and fatal move, demonstrating a perfect harmony between form and function in the animal kingdom. This tooth is a tangible witness of millions of years of evolutionary adaptation, a true wonder of nature. The root, broad and robust, provided a secure anchor to the predator’s jaw, while the tapered, glossy, and smooth crown is a masterpiece of biological design. The fine vertical lines visible on the surface of the crown tell the story of its growth, almost like tree rings recording the time and experience of the predator. A piece of such quality is not only a scientific object of study and a valuable addition to any fossil collection, but also a decorative element of great impact. Its natural elegance and its millennial history make it ideal to enrich a Wunderkammer, an office, or an exhibition space, offering a deep sense of connection with the primordial power of the oceans. Any small visible imperfections are an integral part of its natural formation and do not in any way compromise its charm or authenticity. An object of incredible collectible value and rare beauty, a tangible fragment of the unstoppable force of marine life.
