Under his influence she mainly painted nude figures in large, sculptural, monumental forms. In 1930 she left for Cornwall in England to take watercolor lessons with Stanhope Forbes. Afterwards she stayed briefly in Paris at Adrien Holy's studio, who advised her to paint 'layer by layer'. Back in The Hague she asked the well-known painter Toon Kelder for guidance.
