Collection of French Line (Compagnie Generale Transatlantique) maritime ephemera, circa 1920s-1930s. The group includes one promotional booklet for the Ile de France featuring a pale yellow ground with a decorative blue scrollwork border, and thirteen black and white and sepia tone postcards primarily depicting the S.S. Paris. Postcard views include the ship at sea and in port at New York, alongside various first-class interiors such as the Altar, Promenade Deck, Grand Dining Room, Smoking Room, Foyer and Grand Staircase, Play-room, and the Salon Mixte with its illuminated glass dance floor. Several cards bear printed publisher marks on the reverse for Schaefer-Ross Company, Inc., Rochester, N.Y. and The Gateway Company, Rutherford, New Jersey. One postcard is postally used, bearing a circular stamp reading HAVRE ANGLETERRE NEW YORK FRENCH LINE and a red 1.50 Fr French postage stamp. This card is postmarked June 22, 1936, from Bridge, Massachusetts, and contains a handwritten message addressed to Miss Ruth Bacon at Harvard Law School. Fourteen pieces total. Dimensions: See Desc.
