About the artist: Freddish Papritz, professionally known as Freddish, is a French visual artist born in 1971 in Paris. A self-taught artist, he emerged from Parisian urban culture in its early days and, from the late 1980s, became one of the formative figures of French street art. Active within the early circles of graffiti in the 1980s and 1990s, notably as a member of the IZB crew, Freddish helped lay the groundwork for the street art movement in France. Alongside his urban practice, he worked as an assistant to major contemporary artists such as Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely, experiences that profoundly influenced his artistic vision and embedded his work in the heritage of the Nouveau Réalisme. From these influences, Freddish develops a singular multidisciplinary artistic language blending painting, sculpture, assemblage, and urban techniques. He is particularly known for his sculptural interventions and metallic assemblages, often conceived for public space. Alongside other artists, he co-founded La Galerie de la Rue, a collective platform dedicated to exhibiting urban art in institutional and non-institutional contexts, in France and internationally, including projects in West Africa.
