Fraraccio "Permesso dalla Legge" – Traditional Mozzetta of the Kingdom of Naples – ABS White – 420 INOX Category Catawiki Collectors knives – Italian traditional knives – Contemporary craftsmanship Description Up for auction is this splendid specimen of the famous model "Permesso dalla Legge", handmade by Michele Fraraccio in the early 2000s and inspired by the historic Neapolitan Mozzetta tradition, one of the most characteristic knives of southern Italy. The Mozzetta originated in the territory of the ancient Kingdom of Naples following regulations that limited the use of particularly offensive tips on pocket knives. From this historical evolution arose the typical blade with a truncated tip and distinctive profile, which still today makes this model immediately recognizable. The inscription "Permesso dalla Legge" directly recalls this popular tradition, which over time became a true historical designation for this type of knife. This specimen features an elegant glossy white ABS handle, accented by a brass butt cap and terminal ring, elements that give the knife a refined and distinctive appearance. The blade is made of 420 INOX steel, a material appreciated for good corrosion resistance, reliability, and ease of maintenance. The clean lines and the particular blade shape make the Mozzetta one of the most sought-after traditional Italian knives by regional knife collectors. Specifications Artisan: Michele Fraraccio Model: Permesso dalla Legge (Mozzetta) Production: early 2000s Origin: Frosolone, Italy Total length when open: 17 cm Blade length: 7 cm Blade material: 420 INOX steel Handle material: glossy white ABS Butt cap: brass Traditional terminal ring Manual opening Historical notes The Mozzetta is one of the knives most representative of the Mezzogiorno Italy tradition. Its distinctive tipless blade stems from the need to comply with Bourbon-era regulations that restricted the diffusion of knives with sharp tips. Since then the model has remained deeply rooted in the popular culture of southern Italy, becoming one of the symbols of traditional knife making of the Kingdom of Naples. Condition NEW. Knife never used and carefully stored. Blades intact and perfectly preserved, efficient mechanism, handle in excellent condition. Possible minor signs due solely to long-term storage. The photographs are an integral part of the description. Interesting specimen from Fraraccio’s early 2000s production, particularly appreciated by collectors of Italian traditional knives and by connoisseurs of the historic cutlery of the Kingdom of Naples.
