Atmospheric late 19th-century British river landscape, attributed to Frank Hider (1861–1933), signed “F. Hider” and dated 1895 in the lower-left corner. The composition depicts a solitary figure seated in a rowing boat on still water at sunset. Dense vegetation and tall trees frame the scene, while the warm pink and golden sky is reflected across the river. The delicate treatment of the light creates a particularly peaceful and contemplative atmosphere, characteristic of Victorian Romantic landscape painting. Executed in oil on canvas and presented in an elaborate gilt frame with richly modelled floral decoration. The frame enhances the warm tones of the sunset and gives the work a strong decorative presence. Frank Hider was a British painter known for atmospheric landscapes, woodland scenes and waterside compositions, frequently featuring boats, reflective water and dramatic evening skies. The painting and frame display signs of age and use consistent with a work dating from 1895, including surface wear, minor abrasions and losses, particularly around the edges and frame.
