FRAGMENT OF A KISWAH EMBROIDERED WITH gilt AND SILVER METALLIC THREADS, INTENDED FOR THE HOLY KA‘BA, SAUDI ARABIA, 20TH CENTURY Rectangular in shape, this fragment of the Kiswah features a richly decorated design embroidered with gold and silver metallic threads on a black silk background. The composition is centered around a large cartouche bearing an inscription in elegant Thuluth script, surrounded by arabesques and stylized plant motifs. INSCRIPTIONS: “Victory comes from Allah, as does an imminent conquest. ” Quran, Surah As-Saff (61:13). DIMENSIONS: 70 × 90 cm
