Packed to the brim with no shortage of intricate details and complex design embellishments, bidders will note that the portrait of Chief Justice John Marshall who led the Supreme Court of the United States from 1801 to 1835 takes a backseat when held against the balance of the engraved design. Anchored on the back by an arched rendition of "TWENTY" accomplished from a variety of geometric elements laid atop a complex bed of geometric lathework, this design is truly a work of engraved art that does well to betray the popularity of this series imprint. Accompanied further by a variety of floral elements that frame the centermost portion of the arrangement along with a number geometric arrangements seen at left and right, this design also speaks to the shortsightedness of the Treasury Department and relatively blasé nature of the subsequent Series of 1891.
