Here familiar elements such as the portrait of Daniel Webster seen at left opposite a scene variously entitled Introduction of the Old World to the New or Pocahontas Presented at Court, this example offers a tantalizing glimpse into how this design remained largely unchanged from the time it was introduced while also showcasing the small changes made across a litany of signature combinations. Yet these small changes are demonstrated here in a way utterly unmatched by any circulated example as this piece is unequivocally a fortunate survivor that never met the harsh realities of commerce and repeated uses in circulation before being saved.
