Floral composition with pheasant, French School, 19th century

Descriptio Oil on relined canvas. Dimensions 125 x 95 cm. A large floral composition arranged in a classically inspired vase resting on a sculpted marble base with cherubs, where an exuberant display of flowers of various species intertwines with fruits and foliage, enlivened by the presence of a pheasant in full motion, which introduces dynamism and spatial depth. The atmospheric background and the careful chromatic gradation reinforce the sense of volume and visual richness. The brushwork is loose yet controlled, with particular attention to the tactile qualities of petals, leaves, and stone surfaces, while the light models the forms with an enveloping chiaroscuro. The work belongs to the 19th-century French tradition of revisiting the 17th-century Baroque still life, reinterpreting its ornamental splendor and naturalistic symbolism from a historicist and academic perspective.
