The text volumes serve to inform of the genus described, particularly serapias, aceras, loroglossum and barlia (1968) and dactlorhiza (1976). With notes on their origins, distributions and differentiations concerning the orchidaceae. Nelson's artistic and scientific work on orchids was inspired by his first encounter with them in 1928 whilst travelling in Italy. After numerous journeys to the Mediterranean region, tirelessly drawing, and intensively studying orchids including at the Geobotanical Institute Rubel, in Zurich, he published four books between 1954 and 1976. These works were published with the support of the Swiss National Science Foundation. Text volumes are in the publisher's cloth, and plates are preserved in the publisher's matching cloth-backed slipcases.Externally, very smart indeed, with really only spotting to the boards. This is most prevalent to the slipcase of '1976' plate volume, which also has handling marks. Internally, text volumes are firmly bound with bright and clean pages. Plates are unbound as issued and are also bright and clean. Very Good Indeed
