Fascinating natural coral bowl

Halomitra pileus, a free-living, delicate, thin coral of circular shape, sometimes domed or bell-shaped. They have no axial groove. The coralites are widely spaced and increase in size as the colony grows. In small colonies, the septocostae radiate in a fan from the initial point. The septa have teeth similar to those of Fungia corals. The tentacles of mature colonies extend only at night; those of juvenile colonies commonly extend during the day. Colonies can be large and cover extensive areas of horizontal substrate. They are light brown in color, often with pink or bright violet margins, especially at night when they feed. But their skeleton is perfectly white! It should be noted that the corals in auction are still covered by regular CITES documentation. It is expected that the Solomon Islands will publish new regulations regarding coral export. Any blockage would entail not only difficulty in obtaining these beautiful specimens on the market but also a significant rise in their prices. An absolutely winning lot, Bowl with an elegant rounded shape. Pedestal not included, made from reclaimed material and used for photographic purposes only. Have a good auction.
