Tourmalines only became more popular in European jewelry design in the 20th century. Since then, however, they have become an integral part of the world of gemstones thanks to their fascinating variety of colors. The centerpiece of this extraordinary ring is a natural green tourmaline in a rectangular scissor cut, weighing around 6.90 carats. The intense bottle-green stone is perfectly set off by a stylish design from the 1940s to 1950s. The voluminous shapes of the ring are based on the fashion of the 1940s, which was typical of the so-called "retro style". This era was characterized by large-format pieces of jewelry that were often designed with striking coloured stones and warm gold tones. An engraving on the inside reveals that the ring was given as a gift in 1953 - a detail that underlines the historical authenticity of the piece of jewelry. The design of the ring is characterized by a wide golden frame that holds the tourmaline across the axis of the finger. The ring shoulders are formed by two artfully crafted volutes engraved with delicate, graphic floral motifs. A special highlight can be seen when viewed from the side: four old-cut diamonds with a total weight of around 0.50 carats are set into the volutes. These "old mine cut" diamonds originate from 19th century jewelry production and have been used here in a second application, a fine detail that lends the ring additional charm. This impressive ring, which came to us from Franconia, is a rare and beautiful example of mid-20th century jewelry design - a fascinating combination of retro design and historical accents.
