Origin: Southern Europe; undamaged recovered by experienced research divers in the rocky coastal regions of the Greek Aegean (e.g., near Mykonos). Habitat: Mediterranean Sea and adjacent Atlantic; it lives firmly cemented to rocky substrates and hard substrates at depths of 5 to about 40 meters, often hidden under strong currents.
