Untreated sapphires, shimmering natural pearls, glittering diamond roses and high karat gold, this is how the antique brooch here shines and beckons. Six natural coloured gemstones framed by forty-three diamonds form the leaves of a three-leaf clover. One wonderful pearl shimmers in the center of the leaf, and a wreath of further pearls completes the circular brooch to the outer sides. Today we know the clover shown in this way mainly as a symbol of good luck. In earlier times, however, the leaves of this plant were also known as symbols of love. Reference is made to Gottfried von Strassburg's work "Tristan and Isolde", in which Isolde wears a headdress of clover leaves when the two lovers meet. Moreover, medieval love poetry made the proverbial "green clover" the site of the lovers' encounter. In 19th century lexicons of floral language, we find the invitation "Think of me" or "Be mine" associated with the clover. In the "jewel language", which was universally known in the 19th century, precious stones were ascribed various meanings, which in the case of our brooch underline the romantic connotation: Thus the sapphire stood for fidelity, the pearl for pure love and the diamond as the hardest of all natural minerals was ascribed permanence, which of course can also be read in the context of love. Thus, the brooch, created in the years around 1875, refers not only to a happy moment, but also to a happy love - and shimmers as light and bright as a happy heart. A sparkling highlight and an enchanting eye-catcher is the piece of jewellery in any case. We discovered it in Vienna. An independent certificate from the German Association for Gemstone Evaluation Idar-Oberstein has confirmed the quality of the materials used.
