Title: The Shepherd on the Horizon ㅤ School: European School (20th century) ㅤ Style: Hyperrealistic landscape ㅤ Technique: Oil on canvas ㅤ Condition: Good overall state of conservation, with possible signs of age and use appropriate to the period of the work. ㅤ Circle and artistic influence: The work is part of the tradition of European figurative landscape painting of the 20th century, executed in a realistic manner with a strong attention to detail. The depiction of the rural environment, traditional architecture, and the figure of the shepherd refer to costumbrista landscape painting, while the meticulous treatment of vegetation, buildings, and lighting effects evidences a close approach to hyperrealism. Influences of Spanish mountain landscape painting and European realist currents focused on idealized representation of the rural world are also perceptible. ㅤ The composition represents a wide mountainous landscape presided over by a small rural settlement distant, recognizable by clustered houses and the tower of a church that rises above the ensemble. In the foreground, a shepherd leads a flock along an irregular, damp path that visually directs the gaze toward the architectural core of the horizon. ㅤ Depth is built by a succession of planes, from the dark, earthy areas of the path to the illuminated meadows, trees, and the large bluish mountain formations in the background. The use of greens, ochres, grays, and blues creates a serene and slightly hazy atmosphere.
