Title: Vanitas Floral ㅤ School: Italian School (17th century) ㅤ Style: Baroque – floral still life ㅤ Technique: Oil on panel ㅤ Circle and artistic influence: The work is part of the Italian tradition of Baroque still life from the seventeenth century, linked to the development of the floral still life in Italy. Its composition on a very dark background, the pronounced chiaroscuro, and the arrangement of flowers in various stages of opening evoke the formulas developed by painters specialized in still lifes during the Seicento. There is an influence of Baroque naturalism and of floral compositions of decorative and symbolic character, where the ephemeral beauty of flowers could acquire connotations related to the transience of time and vanitas. ㅤ A floral composition with a markedly Baroque character, developed on a practically black background that concentrates attention on the flowers and plant elements. Roses, carnations, and small white flowers are distributed in an apparently spontaneous way, combining pinkish, reddish, white and ochre tones with foliage in deep shades. ㅤ The use of chiaroscuro allows certain flowers to emerge from the gloom through small points of light, creating depth and a dramatic atmosphere. The presence of dry leaves and withered plant elements introduces a contrast between splendor and decay, reinforcing the reading of the composition within the vanitas tradition and the Baroque representation of ephemeral nature. ㅤ The work is presented in a wide gilded oval frame, of a classical character, composed of concentric moldings and fine inner ornamentation. The gilding shows patina, wear, small losses and signs of age, in keeping with the historical character of the ensemble. ㅤ Observations: It presents faults and restorations. Due to its age, the work shows signs of conservation and wear compatible with the passage of time. ㅤ The work may incur damages during transport even with proper packaging. In such a case, we will require photographs of the damages to proceed with compensation.
