Elegant Art Nouveau Brooch with Diamonds in Platinum on Gold, c. 1910

This high-quality brooch captivates with its stylized natural form and the elegance of its luxurious materials. We see a branch with gracefully curved leaves, from which a fruit or inflorescence appears to grow. Two old-cut diamonds are set at the ends of the delicate tendrils. Smaller diamond roses in the curves add further sparkle to the brooch. A total of around 0.78 carats of diamonds are set. The brooch consists of delicate gold bars that are covered with light platinum on the front. These bars, which are wafer-thin in places when viewed from the front but retain their stability in depth, are also known as "knife wires". They are a typical design feature in the jewellery of the time and allowed for visually more delicate, lighter designs than ever before. This enchanting brooch combines many elements that are typical of the Art Nouveau style of the early years after the turn of the century: We see wonderfully rhythmic lines, playful asymmetry and stylized natural forms. The piece was created around 1910, but with the end of the German Empire, this formal language disappeared and made way for the modernity of Art Deco.
