Electrotype Copy 1779 François-Louis Teissèdre de Fleury Assault on Stony Point Medal. Original Dies. After Betts-566. Copper. As Made. 46.5 mm. 50.37 grams. This piece is well-executed with sharp design elements on both sides. The texture is frosty and smooth, the color warm medium brown with mottled charcoal-olive peripheral highlights. The Adams-Bentley census (2007) lists only five original de Fleury medals in silver, and nine in bronze. Ten of the latter are known to us as of this writing, only eight of which are held privately. No wonder, then, that high quality copies such as this are always in demand among collectors. Provenance: From the Henry Mitchell Collection. Purchased from John Kraljevich, May 2012.
