École animalière européenne (XX) - Chien de chasse avec sa proie - NO RESERVE

European School of the 20th Century Hunting dog with prey Oil on canvas — Signature illegible Attractive oil on canvas from a European school of the 20th century, devoted to one of the traditional themes of animal painting and hunting: the hunting dog with its prey. The composition presents a show dog in the foreground, holding a bird between its jaws after the hunt. The animal's figure takes center stage, standing out against a wide rural landscape in golden tones, with cultivated fields and distant buildings. The painting is characterized by a figurative and naturalistic approach, with visible and relatively free brushwork. It especially highlights the treatment of fur and plumage, resolved through small touches of color, as well as the use of ochers, earth tones and yellows that give the landscape a marked luminosity. Stylistically, the work continues the long European tradition of animal painting and hunting, a genre widely developed during the 19th and 20th centuries. In this case, the approach combines the animal portrait with the landscape, granting the dog an almost monumental presence within the composition. Hunting scenes and the individualized depiction of dogs effectively constitute a recurring theme within European animal painting.
