Any cord visible in the photographs serves exclusively as a display aid and is not included with the artefact. Description This rare stamp seal presents a compact square matrix engraved with a distinctive vegetal device: a long central stem accompanied by sharply articulated lateral leaves. Its substantial raised reverse terminates in an integral perforated suspension loop, allowing the seal to be carried as a personal object. The vegetal composition finds meaningful parallels within the visual vocabulary of ancient Judaea, where palm trees and palm branches occur repeatedly on Jewish coinage. Hasmonean and Herodian numismatic imagery provides particularly important comparative evidence; Herodian issues explicitly employ paired palm branches. The combination of portable seal form, deeply worked matrix and palm-like botanical imagery places the object convincingly within the broader glyptic and symbolic traditions of Late Hellenistic–Early Roman Judaea. Its strongly preserved patina and unusually legible design give this small seal considerable archaeological and collector presence. Comparative Context Plant imagery has a long history in Near Eastern glyptic. The Metropolitan Museum preserves ancient stamp seals whose matrices are organized around stylised plant motifs, demonstrating the established use of botanical imagery within seal-cutting traditions. For the specifically Judaean context, the most significant comparison is the numismatic repertoire. Scholarly surveys document barley, palm trees, palm branches, crossed palm branches and vine branches among ancient Jewish coin motifs. A Hasmonean–Herodian auction group also records a Herod I bronze issue with two palm branches, illustrating the currency of this imagery in the late first century BC. The identification here should therefore be understood as a typological and iconographic attribution to the Hasmonean–Herodian Judaean tradition, rather than attribution to a specific ruler or workshop. Information The presentation and sale of this object are conducted in accordance with principles of transparency, scholarly consistency, and good faith, and no object is knowingly presented as a copy or imitation. The object has been documented using high-resolution imaging equipment, with its physical structure and form left entirely unaltered; only limited color-balance adjustments have been applied to ensure visual accuracy. As high-resolution imagery may influence the perception of scale, the photographs should always be considered together with the stated measurements. All statements concerning dating, intended function, symbolic or iconographic interpretation, and material identification represent high-probability academic assessments based on typological analysis, comparative examples and expert opinion; definitive verification would require advanced laboratory analysis beyond the scope of the sales process. Upon request prior to shipment, a signed ownership document issued in the buyer's name may also be provided. If requested prior to dispatch, the Cultural and Iconographic Assessment Certificate will be prepared as a physical hard copy and included with the shipment.
