Desk clock - Metamec lighted dial - Mid-century modern...

A distinctive vintage Metamec electric alarm clock/radio, Made in England, featuring a highly decorative Mid-Century Modern / Space Age-inspired design and several unusual original functions. The clock has a particularly attractive architectural dial composition, with a metallic background, centrally white dial, black hour markers, silver-toned horizontal decorative elements and black hands. The overall design is strongly representative of British domestic design from the late 1960s / 1970s, combining geometric shapes, contrasting materials and a characteristic retro-futuristic look. The front is protected by a curved transparent flap with a chrome-like finish; the light-brown teak-like housing gives the clock a compact and sculptural appearance. The dial is marked: METAMEC REPEAT LIGHTED DIAL Made in England. The clock has been tested and is operational. The light output, however, is very weak and does not provide sufficient intensity to illuminate the dial in the dark. It should therefore serve as a working original feature, but not as effective nocturnal digital illumination to read the time in the dark. The clock uses a vintage mains-powered synchronous movement. As is common with many vintage electric clocks of this type, some mechanical operation sounds, buzzing or vibration may be audible during use. The intensity may vary depending on the substrate, clock position and surroundings. For this reason the clock should not be regarded as completely silent. Power 220V AC 50Hz European plug Dimensions Width: 16 cm Height: 9.5 cm Depth: 7 cm Condition The clock is in good vintage condition with normal aging and wear consistent with an original item from the period. Please examine all photos carefully, which are an integral part of the description and show the condition in detail. The clock, alarm, repeat/snooze function, Tick function and internal lighting have all been tested prior to listing.
