DENMARK. Penny, ND (1047-75). Lund Mint. Svend II Estridsen. NGC AU Details--Peck Marked. Hauberg-cf. 25 and cf. 9; Hauberg Collection-; Ramus & Devegge-cf. 175; Bruun-1797. Weight: 1.00 gms. This is an extremely rare issue, with Christ's right hand outstretched in blessing, subsidiary to Hbg-6, rather than together with the left hand in prayer. Has an old cabinet toning and blundered legends; large center crack. The obverse is of Byzantine style, although this exact motif is not known on any Byzantine coin. It depicts Christ the Savior, nimbate, standing in front of the throne of David (in accordance with Luke 1:32-33), but here He is shown in prayer, interceding for His believers (Hebrews 7:25). Defining for Hbg-25 is the throne and the hand in front in prayer, but the overall figure and style of the nimbate make it like one of the many variations for Hbg-9 (R&D-cf. 175).
