Delicate Ring with a Natural Pearl & Diamonds in Gold & Platinum, c. 1910

After all, what better way is there to express a promise than through precious jewellery that the recipient can always carry with them? This ring is a trilogy ring that derives its romantic significance from the three central gemstones: they represent the past, present, and future. These dimensions of time are expressed here by two old-cut diamonds and a large natural pearl that shimmers in various hues. Because of this symbolism—which refers not only to shared memories but also to the couple’s future together—rings like this were often given as engagement rings at the turn of the century. The choice of materials adds yet another nuance to this message, as diamonds symbolize eternity and the pearl symbolizes purity. In keeping with the style of the era, the ring is crafted from slightly reddish, high-karat gold.
