Decorative ornament - Baroque Rococo - Italy - Baroque shelf

Elegant "a cartoccio" Shelf in Carved and Gilded Wood – Florentine Baroque/Rococo Style – Late 19th / Early 20th Century Splendid and elegant small wall shelf "a cartoccio" in full Revival Baroque/Rococo style, of refined Italian artisanal craftsmanship (Tuscany/Florentine area), dating to the end of the nineteenth century or the first half of the twentieth century. The piece is entirely hand-carved in solid wood, a characteristic clearly visible on the rough back, where the typical and fascinating gouge marks impressed by the artisan to lighten and perforate the structure are present. The front features rich decoration with vegetal motifs and sinuous acanthus leaves, finished with a splendid and warm gold leaf gilding (or meccha) laid on traditional preparation. Thanks to its extremely light weight, this shelf is a masterpiece of artistic cabinetmaking, perfect as an accent element to display small works of art, porcelain, or bronzes. A vintage piece of great charm from a family collection. Epoch: Late 19th Century / First Half of the 20th Century Origin: Italy (Florentine Manufacture) Material: Hand-carved solid wood and gilded Dimensions: Height 21 cm | Width 20 cm | Depth 12.5 cm at base 2 cm Weight: 252 g Excellent overall condition, consistent with the object's age. The wooden structure is solid and intact. The original gilding shows a beautiful natural patina of time with minimal, imperceptible wear that attest to its authenticity and history. On the back there are two original era ring hooks ready for hanging. Being an antique and family item, the photos and description have been prepared with the utmost care, honesty, and attention to detail to show the real condition of the item. Any small irregularities in the carving or gilding attest to the completely artisanal and non-industrial nature of the piece. We invite you to carefully view the photo gallery, which is an integral part of the description.
