Danny Lyon (1942-) Danny Lyon is one of the most influential figures in documentary photography and the visual “New Journalism.” His career is characterized by his direct involvement with the subjects he photographs, often living among them to capture reality from within. In 1967 he was invited to join Magnum Photos and was a full member for many years. He currently maintains a relationship with the agency as an external collaborator. Lyon has received numerous prestigious awards, including Guggenheim Fellowships (twice), a Rockefeller Fellowship, the Missouri Honor Medal for Distinguished Service in Journalism, and a Lucie Award. His work has been exhibited at major institutions such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, The Menil Collection and the Center for Creative Photography. He is recognized as a pioneer of documentary photography, influencing generations of photographers with his immersive style and his commitment to social commentary.
