Dallas, Texas. $10 1882 Brown Back. Fr. 482. National Exchange Bank. Charter #3623. PCGS Banknote Very Good 10. Representative of this bank's first title which lingered until 1905. This well-circulated Series of 1882 $10 Brown Back issued by the National Exchange Bank of Dallas (Charter# 3623) offers a fine counterpoint to the Lyons - Treat Brown Backs that were issued after this institution became the American National Exchange Bank in 1905. Yet when held against both the bank's second title and the recorded population enumerated by the National Bank Note Census, it becomes clear that survivors representative of the first title are rare items that are notably outnumbered by those issued under the title used after 1905. Today the National Bank Note Census records only four non-institutional pieces for the first title as opposed to the eight recorded for the second title making this a deceptively rare note for the consideration of bidders that's not to be overshadowed by its surviving post-1905 counterparts. Estimate: $1,000 - $1,500. Provenance: From the Jack Copeland Currency Collection, Part IV. Click here for certification details from PCGS Banknote.
