Francesco Parente (1885-1969) - Bronze sculpture in lost-wax casting "Boy in balance on the amphora" - Early 1900s Fascinating bronze sculpture realized in lost-wax casting, by the Neapolitan sculptor and painter Francesco Parente (1885-1969), a celebrated exponent of Neapolitan Verismo, renowned for his plastic ability in portraying children, street urchins, and scenes of popular life with intense expressiveness and dynamism. The work depicts a young naked boy caught in a precarious yet elegant balance atop an amphora. The arms, open and extended outward, give the entire composition a sense of aerial movement and acrobatic grace, while the facial features reveal the typical attentive and prideful expression of the young subjects of the Neapolitan figurative tradition. The quality of the casting stands out in the well-defined anatomical details, in the surface treatment of the hair and the rocky material, and is enhanced by a rich original dark bronze patina from the period with splendid natural reflections. The sculpture rests securely on a solid marble base. Francesco Parente (1885–1969) was an active master of the Neapolitan plastic school. He participated in important national exhibitions, including the XXII International Art Biennale in Venice (1940) and the exhibition "Art in the Life of the Mezzogiorno of Italy" at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome (1953).
