Collection of 1960 - 1990 Holland-America Line and Swedish American

An assortment of mid-to-late 20th-century ocean liner and cruise ship ephemera documenting the Holland-America Line and Swedish American Line. The collection includes promotional brochures, deck plans, passenger lists, press photographs, and a maiden voyage menu. A printed interior menu for the S.S. Rotterdam gala dinner, dated September 27, 1959, lists courses in French including Le Caviar givre de Beluga and Le Parfait Rotterdam. The lot contains First and Tourist Class deck plans for the Swedish American Line Motorliner Gripsholm and Holland-America Line vessels S.S. Statendam, S.S. Maasdam, and S.S. Ryndam. Two black-and-white press photographs of the S.S. Rotterdam feature printed captions at the bottom identifying the ship as the flagship weighing 38,645 gross tons and showing a social scene in the Ritz Carlton Nightclub. Modern materials include a 1981 Holland-America Cruises brochure for the ms Prinsendam and a 1994 Caribbean Cruises brochure. A collection of newspaper clippings from the 1990s regarding vessel retirements and history, including a New York Times Travel Advisory titled A Farewell Voyage, are contained in plastic sleeves.
