Coahuila y Tejas. Galveston Bay & Texas Land Company. 1830 428 402/1000

Coahuila y Tejas. Galveston Bay & Texas Land Company. 1830 428 402/1000 Acres. PMG Certified. No. 623. Good for 4428 482/1000 English acres of land in the newly settled area between the Sabine and San Jacinto Rivers. Lorenzo de Zavala was an important figure in the early history of Texas. Zavala was one of the signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence, helped draft the Constitution for the Republic of Texas, and even served as its first Vice President under President Burnet and was the issuer of these land grants. We see a number of trustee signatures for the company which included Anthony Day, William Sumner, and George Curtis while Secretary W.H. Wilson has also signed. This certificate was made out to Rodman Moulton, and his endorsement is seen on the back. There is an area of map drawn out at lower left which shows where these land grants were available for settlers. The Galveston Bay and Texas Land Company was a real estate promotion firm located in New York City, and they did not actually own the tracts of land, but instead simply acted as a middleman to help colonize that area of East Texas. We note that there are a few tears evident, but between the history and scope of this company, it takes little to figure that these issues are easily overlooked in numismatic terms. Estimate: $1,000 - $1,500. Click here for certification details from PMG.
