Monet rejected academic conventions, instead painting outdoors (en plein air) to capture fleeting effects of sunlight, weather, and color. His loose brushwork and vibrant palette became hallmarks of Impressionist style and strongly influenced generations of artists. Monet’s works are among the most highly valued in the art market.
