That’s a time capsule of Paris at the moment Dada and the future Surrealists were gathering. The editors: Claude Autant-Lara was about eighteen and went on to become a major French film director (Le Diable au corps, La Traversée de Paris). Marcel L’Herbier, another future filmmaker, contributed. Raymond Radiguet, then sixteen, This is one of his earliest appearances in print. Autant-Lara later filmed Radiguet’s Le Diable au corps (1947). François Bernouard’s À la Belle Édition was one of the defining small fine presses of the period. It’s still in its original wrappers with glassine, and the faults are minor. Fragile reviews like this rarely survive in such good shape.
