CK, Carbonaceous Chondrite meteorite

Much less common than their ordinary chondritic sisters, carbonaceous chondrites make up 5% of the meteorites that reach Earth. They are characterized by the presence of carbon in their composition - hence their name - usually in the form of organic compounds such as amino acids. Moreover, carbonaceous chondrites often contain water or minerals that indicate alteration by their presence. With a dark and usually abundant matrix, they are the oldest meteorites known, and thus the oldest material you could ever hold in your hands. The CK meteorites are chondrites with a carbon-rich matrix in dark gray tones, sometimes pale greenish, with numerous chondrules ranging from type 3 to 6, with an average diameter of 1 mm, that is somewhat smaller than CVs and larger than COs (families of carbon-rich meteorites with which they are related). Sometimes they contain sizable CAIs. Additionally, some CK members display impact craters that point to a violent history for their parent body or an impact history. Moreover, the specimen from this batch has a nice shape and size, and a fusion crust over a large part of the surface, which is rare for this kind of carbon-rich chondrites. That fusion crust shows shrink cracks, indicating the temperature difference between the meteorite's temperature during atmospheric entry and the much cooler temperature of the Earth's surface. In the other portion, relief chondrules can be seen that are very beautiful. Ideal for a large collection or museum. All of our meteorites come with a certificate from IMCA (International Meteorite Collectors Association), ensuring lifelong authenticity of all our meteorites.
