Property from the Murphy Family Estate Collection, Savannah, GA Description: Christopher Murphy Jr. (Sav, 1902-1973), 3 Wormsloe Etchings, comprising signed lower right etching of a classic structure flanked by trees, reflecting onto the water surface (fair condition, foxing along the plate border and within plate, minor mat burn along the plate border, visible mounting residue on verso), unsigned etching of architectural ruins in Wormsloe (minor foxing and toning to paper), and print signed lower left and pencil signed lower right etching of a heron garden sculpture (minor foxing and minor mat burn along plate border, with mounting residue on verso); all unframed. Provenance: descended from the artist to the Christopher P.H. Murphy family collection. Christopher Murphy Jr. was a notable 20th century Savannah, Georgia artist. Murphy's artistic education started early as both of his parents were respected Savannah artists, and continued with formal training at the Art Students League. His superior technical skills allowed him to work in a variety of mediums and subject matter and he is best known for his city and landscape scenes of his home town Savannah. He was an active member of the Savannah Art Club and taught art classes around town. During his career his work was exhibited at the National Academy of Design, Art Institute of Chicago, New York Watercolor Club, American Watercolor Society, Sesquicentennial Exposition in Philadelphia, Whitney Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Southern Art League. His work is held in the permanent collections of the Morris Museum and the Telfair as well as in various private collections.Measurements: Height: of paper of classic peripter 10 3/4 in. x Width: 11 in.
