Kweichow "Auto Dollar" with Exceptional Character CHINA. Kweichow. Auto Dollar (7 Mace 2 Candareens), Year 17 (1928). Uncertain Mint, likely Chengdu. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, AU Details. L&M-609; K-757; KM-Y-428; WS-1109. Variety with two grass blades and normal doors. Struck to commemorate the completion of the Kweichow Provincial Highway, and allegedly featuring the personal automobile of Governor Chow Hsi-chien (Zhou Xicheng). Despite some very minor cleaning, this elevated specimen featuring an iconic roadster has some of the more engaging eye appeal that one is likely to encounter for the type, with nearly all design facets remaining full and well defined, and with some deep iridescent toning taking hold around nearly all of the devices. No doubt, a tremendous representative that should generate a great deal of interest given its early automotive iconography. Estimate: $20,000 - $40,000. Provenance: From the MC Collection (陳氏家族集藏).
