Charles Darwin

Superb consecutive four-volume set of the prestigious scientific journal The Journal of the Linnean Society (Botany), covering the key years 1880 to 1884 ( vols. 17, 18, 19 and 20). This lot carries major historical and bibliophilic importance: it contains the last botanical articles published by Charles Darwin just before his death in 1882 (notably in volume 19 concerning the action of ammonium carbonate on plants and chlorophyll), as well as the fundamental research of his son Francis Darwin. An indispensable item for any natural history, Darwinism, and 19th-century botany collector. The volumes feature superb off-text illustration plates (plant engravings and diagrams). Lot arising from library deaccession.
