Charles and Ray Eames, La Chaise

Authorized contemporary production after the 1948 design, by Vitra, fiberglass shell in white lacquered polyurethane, chrome plated steel legs, oak cross section base, labeled. 33.5 x 59 x 30 in. From the International Collection of the Designer and Artist, Alain J.L. Huin Charles and Ray Eames designed the La Chaise in 1948 for The Museum of Modern Art's (MoMA) "International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design." However, it was never mass-produced or sold while Charles and Ray were alive because complex manufacturing and high costs made it impossible at the time. Vitra International finally put it into production in 1996 (with very limited European releases starting earlier in the 1990s). It is available exclusively through Vitra and official partners like the Eames Office. Good estate condition; some minor scuffs to the seat from gentle use.
