Motteroz, printer, 1878–1879. 2 volumes bound together in 1 in-8 volume, publisher’s brown half-cloth, speckled paper covers. An important scholarly publication edited by Étienne Charavay, archivist and paleographer, dedicated to the discovery and dissemination of rare or unpublished historical documents. This fifth and sixth volume of the *Revue des documents historiques* brings together a considerable collection of correspondence, deeds, memoirs, diplomatic papers, and archival documents, accompanied by critical notes and historical commentary. The volume notably includes texts relating to religious history, the Ancien Régime, the Wars of the Vendée, the House of Savoy, as well as various French and European political and ecclesiastical figures. Several documents are reproduced as facsimiles, illustrating the scholarly ambition of this publication, which has become a reference source for historians and collectors of autographs. The quality of the transcriptions and access to sources that were little known at the time explain the enduring interest in this journal, which remains a valuable research tool for political, religious, and diplomatic history to this day. Condition A fine copy in the publisher’s binding. The binding is sturdy and well-preserved. Some signs of wear and slight rubbing on the endpapers. The paper is uniformly yellowed, as is often the case. The interior is fresh and complete.
