Carlton Ware (Stoke-on-Trent

Refined lot of 5 demitasse coffee cups with coordinated saucers, produced by the renowned English manufactory Carlton Ware for the iconic “Rouge Royale” line, dating from the 1930s/40s period. The set stands out for the extraordinary metallic lustre glaze flambé Bordeaux that shifts on the exterior, complemented by a vivid apple-green glazed interior in contrast. The Deco-style shaped handles, the rims and bases of the cups feature a rich finish in bright gold electroplated over a third firing. All pieces bear the original Script Mark of the era stamped on the base. Dimensions: • Cups: Height 6 cm | Diameter 6 cm | Width with handle 8.5 cm • Saucers: Diameter 11.2 cm General conditions (See Photos): Lot used but authentic, with evident signs of age that attest to use and the era of the service. • Gilding: In excellent brightness conditions on all pieces, with no significant color loss. • Cup interiors: The apple-green glaze shows widespread and dense crazing on the bottom and inner walls, typical of the earthenware of this manufacture from that period. • Cups: 3 cups are intact; 1 cup has an evident chipping on the gilded base and 1 cup has a small chip on the upper rim. • Saucers: All the saucers show, to varying degrees, the typical circular wear of the center glaze (where the cup sits), which has revealed the underlying pinkish and iridescent tone.
