Caria, Mylasa Æ Ca. 3rd-2nd century BC (No reserve price)

Caria, Mylasa. Ca. 3rd-2nd century BC. Æ (Bronze, 11.3 mm, 1.59 g). Obv: Horse walking right. Rev: M - Y. Decorated trident. Reference: SNG von Aulock 2619; SNG Keckman 226. Mylasa was one of Caria’s foremost cities, set amid fertile plains and marble-rich hills. It served as the early seat of the Hekatomnid dynasty before Mausolos moved his capital to Halikarnassos. Renowned for its sanctuaries of Zeus, Mylasa stood close to the sacred centre of Labraunda, where the god’s double axe became an enduring symbol of Carian religious identity.
