REFUGE Bruno FERT (Born in 1971) Awesome Restaurant. Jungle of Calais. France. 2016. Fine Art print on Hahnemühle Ultrasmooth paper, title and date inscribed, signed in pencil in the margin 32 x 25.5 cm (40 x 50 cm) These images tell what exile and migration are. These interiors sketch the mental universe of those who are on the road: their traditions, their aspirations, their personalities. They are no longer simply migrants, but traders, young adults barely out of childhood, or mystic artists. In front of the photographer’s lens, the “migrants” or “refugees” – generic terms that cause us to lose sight of their identity – are no longer silhouettes walking in the mud amid the tents, but faces that look back at us... Above all, these clichés reveal the astonishing capacity of the human being, whether nomadic or sedentary, to inhabit the place where he lives, even for a short time, even a hut or a tent. of Calais. Bruno Fert — Documentary photographer Bruno Fert develops a deeply humanistic body of work devoted to exile, migrations and the traversed territories. From vanished Palestinian villages to the precarious refuges of migrants, he photographs less the event than its traces. With Passages, he continues this work along the routes of exile, revealing in the landscapes the marks left by those who try to reach Europe. A precise and silent photography, where the landscape becomes a bearer of memory.
