[Asian Art / Chinese Lacquer] Circular box with a cover in red cinnabar lacquer carved with a study of a sage and his servant – China, Qing Dynasty (19th century) – To restore Circular box from the Qing period (19th century) made in red lacquer carved (cinnabar lacquer / cinnabar lacquer) on a core of wood/paper mache, with interior and bottom lacquered black. Decoration & Iconography: Cover: Central carved medallion depicting a landscape scene beneath a twisted pine, featuring a Taoist sage accompanied by his young attendant (awaiting) bearing a vase/gourd. The background is finely incised with geometric honeycomb motifs and stylized waves. The medallion is framed by a fretwork border (leiwen). Sides (Base and Cover): Decorated in bold relief with pomegranates and longevity peaches in cartouches on a variegated geometric background (diaper pattern). Interior: Coated with glossy black lacquer. Origin: China. Period: 19th century (Qing Dynasty).
