Bower & Wilkins - 686 / 2-Way Vented-Box Bookshelf Speaker set

The Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) 686 is a compact, two-way bookshelf speaker weighing 4.9 kg. Its bass-reflex enclosure features a rear port with a golf-ball surface to reduce airflow turbulence and noise. Foam plugs are included to control bass response. The speaker uses a one-inch aluminium-dome tweeter with Nautilus sound-absorbing technology, designed to reproduce frequencies up to 50 kHz. Its 130 mm Kevlar midrange/low-frequency driver includes a fixed bullet-shaped centre to improve midrange performance and integration with the tweeter. Two pairs of terminals support bi-wiring and bi-amping. Despite its small size, the B&W 686 delivers accurate, detailed and tonally neutral sound. Although its performance may initially seem simple, extended listening reveals its precision, clarity and balanced frequency response. Rather than exaggerating particular frequencies, it aims to reproduce recordings faithfully. Overall, the B&W 686 is a convincing Hi-Fi speaker that combines thoughtful engineering with natural, transparent sound. Previous owner has painted them in white to match his interior design.
